Dalkia signs an Energy Performance Contract with Thales Alenia Space for its Cannes site

On 26 November 2020, Dalkia announced that it has signed a 15-year Energy Performance Contract (EPC) with Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), for its site in Cannes. This contract concerns the supply of energy, as well as the operation and maintenance of thermal and refrigeration facilities, and is a concrete example of decarbonisation within the industry. And the rewards? 45% savings on energy used in hot water production and 980 tonnes of CO2 avoided each year.

Thales Alenia Space has placed its faith in Dalkia again to improve the energy performance of part of its industrial production facilities.

Dalkia's teams have installed new cold production equipment with a capacity of 1.2MW to supplement that of the manufacturer's cooling units. Heat exchangers have been installed to recover the so-called "free" heat and use it to heat the plant's hot water loop, in a circular economy principle. It guarantees 80% of the manufacturer's heating needs and reduces energy use by 45%.

The contract also provides for the renewal of certain ageing equipment.

All the facilities are connected to Desc*, Dalkia's energy performance monitoring centre, to measure and optimise energy consumption in real time.

The project corresponds to an investment of more than €1 million and was supported by the Energy Savings Certificate (ESC) scheme, which is subsidised as part of the implementation of the EPC. It enables Thales Alenia Space to avoid the emission of 980 tonnes of CO2 per year, the equivalent of 545 cars taken off the road.
