Energy performance is the amount of energy used by a system to meet its needs. The combined drive to pursue energy performance and replace fossil fuels with renewables to deliver forward-looking energy services is a vital part of the energy transition.

Energy performance involves:

  • Keeping consumption of usable energy (heat, cooling, etc.) to the strict minimum needed to provide energy services like heating, air conditioning, cooking and industrial cooling. The goal is to use less and promote energy conservation.
  • Reducing loss from the transformation, distribution and use of energies required to provide these services (electricity, gas, oil, coal, etc.) as much as possible. This is the energy efficiency that comes through reducing and improving energy use. 
  • Maintaining and improving the comfort of occupants through effecotte tive energy management.
