The energy mix is the distribution of the different primary energy sources used to produce energy.

The energy mix includes fossil fuels (oil, natural gas and coal), nuclear power and renewable energy (wind, solar, hydro, biomass, geothermal energy, marine energy, biogas, waste heat recovery, waste recovery solutions, etc.). The share of each primary energy source is expressed as a percentage.

Through its "Grenelle 1" act, France has set out to increase renewable energy to 23% of the country's energy mix by 2020 in line with the goals of the energy transition.
